Across all 41 completed BaT auctions the 981 Cayman GTS has sold 37 times (90.2% sell-through) at a median of $63,500 and a mean of $64,710, with an interquartile band of $58,000–$69,500 and extremes of $46,250 to $84,000. That is a remarkably tight core for a car that ranges from 500-mile garage queens to a 75,000-mile daily. The spread is almost entirely explained by two variables: transmission and mileage. Manuals show a median of $71,150 (n=14) against $61,000 for PDK (n=23) — call it a $10k, ~17% premium for the 6-speed. Under roughly 15,000 miles the sold prices cluster $63,500–$84,000; over 40,000 miles they cluster $46,250–$57,500. Everything else — colour, options, recall status — moves the number by low single-digit thousands.

The trend is soft but not broken. Calendar-year medians ran $69,500 in 2022, $64,000 in 2023, $66,972 in 2024, then $59,500 in 2025, before two 2026 sales at $62,000 and $84,000 lifted that year's median to $73,000. The rolling last-12-months median is $61,500 versus $63,500 the prior year, -3.1%. Read the 2025 dip with care: that year's book was mileage-heavy (a 75k-mile car at $46,250, a 51k-mile car at $50,138, a 62k-mile track build at $61,000), while the 2024 book was full of sub-20k manuals. Mix, not collapse. The signal that matters more is on the reserve side — four no-sales, and all four were sellers reaching: 13k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS 6-Speed stalled at $74,000 despite PCCB, X73 and ~$29k of options, 9k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS stalled at $65,500 on its second attempt, 12k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS at $63,981 and 35k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS at $60,500. The ceiling for a PDK car with a normal story is roughly $70k; ask more and the room goes quiet.

The top of the market is where the interesting money is. What it had instead was a single owner, documented European Delivery from Leipzig, all 10k miles added under that owner, fresh March 2026 service (Michelin PS4S, brake fluid, plugs, filters), paint-meter readings on video and a seller who answered everything. The lesson: at the top, provenance and transparency now compete with the manual premium.

Sell-through behaviour is healthy at the bottom too. Known issues

On 2016 Porsche Cayman GTS 6-Speed ($69,500) the transmission was replaced March 2022 with a factory Getrag unit. SpyderMan981 spotted it from service photo 171: 'Some of these vehicles had an issue wherein third gear would fail due to a poor weld on the shaft. Likely the case here since Porsche just replaced it instead of repairing it.' The seller (Westsidepro) confirmed and explained the redesign: 'The replacement/upgraded design uses a spline/interlocking technique... and is now supposedly fail safe.'

Check: For any 6-speed: run the VIN against WJ88, and ask whether the gearbox has been replaced. A replacement unit with the spline/interlocking third gear is arguably better than an untouched original. Ask for the invoice and the box's build date.

This is a common issue… the dealer told me that the cost was $4500.' On 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS ($55,500) trella claimed the recall changes 'sport chrono shift points and other mappings... more importantly the sound of the car... These cars without this recall are worth their weight in gold.' Same theme on 9k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS, 29k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS and 14k-Mile 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS. Treat the 'leave it open' advice as forum lore, not fact.

Check: Pull the Carfax recall lines and ask the dealer for open-campaign status. Decide deliberately: completing it reportedly remaps Sport Plus behaviour and kills the overrun pops; leaving it open is an open safety campaign on your car's record. Separately, budget for the possibility of an ECU replacement.
